Dum Maro Dum:
Drugs of all or any kind leads you to only one place... Hell! No one is ignorant or oblivious to it. Ask anyone and you may just know where you can fix yourself a joint. Drugs in general is a big racket that has been going on for ages. Lets track down some bollywood films that have time and again highlighted this issue.
Rohan Sippy's 'Dum Maro Dum' which was released on 22nd April revolves around the life of six people who come to Goa and their life is changed forever. It may be a paradise but once the drug mafias are involved nothing remains simple as just taking a drag.
Dev D:
This modern version of 'Devdas' had Dev babu getting addicted to alcohol and drugs over losing Paro to another man. After being engulfed in self pity and drugs when he almost loses his life, sensibility kicks in. 'Dev D' was shot from the perspective of a mind that's in high spirits.
Fashion:
Madhur Bhandarkar's 'Fashion' shows the effects of narcissism. The film shows the self-absorbed Kangna Ranaut fall from the top of her career to rock bottom. To forget herself and submerge her failures she takes to drugs and loses her life due to an overdose.
Kyon?:
It may not have received a grand release but the story nonetheless was very important. Based on a true life story, 'Kyon?' was about the life of five best friends. Being children of affluent parents money and the lifestyle it brought with it was a necessity more than a luxury. Under the influence of drugs, they end up killing their best friends only to realise the next day the grave error they had done and what it may cost them.
Kaminey:
Without doubt, drugs is a huge money making racket. Even though one may not use it but a carrier has its perks. Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Kaminey' revolves around a guitar case filled drug packets worth crores. The entire film circulates around acquiring the case resulting in several deaths.
Hare Rama Hare Krishna:
A parental separation splits Dev Anand and his sister, Zeenat Aman. Years later, he learns that she has taken to drugs and may be involved in other criminal activities. The film revolves in the siblings finding each other. The film had the popular song 'Dum Maro Dum Mit Jaaye Gham' which has now been remixed and used in Rohan Sippy's film, 'Dum Maro Dum'.
Gumrah:
Sridevi gets framed in a drug case while travelling to Hong Kong leading to a death sentence. The film revolves around the case and her escape from the foreign country back to India.
Jaanbaaz:
Feroz Khan who is madly in love with Sridevi loses her to drugs. The situation gets even worse when she dies due to drug overdose. He vows to put an end to the entire drug circle. 'Jaanbaaz' is popularly known for the song, 'Har kisi ko nehi milta yahan pyar zindagi mein.'
Jalwa:
Naseeruddin Shah's younger brother dies as a result of a drug overdose. He vows to put an end to drugs and drug-dealers, by joining the police. Little did he know that the vicious circle of drugs sometimes even makes the law a handicap.
Charas:A Joint Effort:
The film revolves around the drug racket in Ladakh and how innocent lives are lost in the entire process. Incidentally, another film titled 'Charas' was released in 1976 starring Dharmendra and Hema Malini.
