Indian women began to wear the normal sari below the waistline exposing the navel which is known as Low-rise sari or low hip sari. Also due to liberalization and changing global markets,saris are reemerging as an erotic wrap which can expose as much as it conceals.

As a result,saris began to be designed in many innovative ways and different materials.Transparent & semi-transparent saris made of sheer fabrics like chiffon etc., is one such example. These saris are tied in different ways such as petticoat being tied at about 4-6 inches below the navel and just above the pubic area or where the blouse is small which ends just below the Breasts and the pallu is thin thereby exposing the some part of the blouse and almost the entire midriff.

This were made popular by the celebrities of Bollywood industry and other popular regional film industries like Tamil cinema and Telugu cinema.These are mainly worn by the rich and educated upper class women.

But wearing the sari below the navel doesn't always lead to exposing the navel.Sometimes the navel is covered with the pallu in a low-rise sari also.In some corporates in India,saris are required to be worn in an elegant manner avoiding navel exposure

Charmi Kaur re-entry to Telugu movies happened with Neeke Manasichhaanu a film with Sreekanth which was a failure; then in Sri Anjaneyam, directed by ace director Krishna Vamsi which too was a failed attempt. Later that year she was paired for the second time with Sumanth in Chinnodu but it was not a successful venture. Her next film, Rakhi (with NTR), was a hit. In 2007 Mantra, a thriller with Charmme in the lead role, was declared as a surprise hit.This performance fetched her the Nandi Award for the best herione of 2007. Her performance in the movie is appreciated by wide range of audience. Then, she starred in several lady oriented roles, a rare thing in Tollywood.[citation needed] The list includes Anukokunda Oka Roju, Mantra, Manorama 2009, Kavya's Diary, Sye Aata, Mangala in Telugu and Laadam in Tamil, out of which Anukokunda Oka Roju and Mantra were very successful. Finally she got chance to work in bollywood in the movie Bbuddah... Hoga Terra Baap lead by Amitabh Bachchan . Her role on this movie is as a supporting actress and the movie has done average in the box office.

Vidya Balan to portray Silk Smitha South Indian sensation

The biopic of screen sensation Silk Smitha: Directed by Milan Luthria, the film chronicles the romantic journey of the erstwhile screen sensation, Silk Smitha. Luthria believes the choice of Vidya Balan to portray Silk Smitha is a casting coup of sorts.

Naseeruddin Shah is Vidya's co-star in the film. The duo last worked together in the 2010 hit 'Ishqiya'. The film's starcast also includes Tusshar Kapoor and Emraan Hashmi who play the romantic interests in Silk Smitha's life.

Balaji's keenly awaited multi-starrer 'The Dirty Picture' starring Vidya Balan in the lead role, will be released on December 2 on the birth anniversary of controversial actress and southern sex symbol Silk Smitha.

Born Vijayalakshimi in to a poor family in Eluru in Andhra Pradesh, she left school early, driven to become a movie star. Going in with her aunt in Chennai, she soon found a sponsor who re-named her Smitha. After garnering much notice and acclaim with her first major role in the Tamil movie, 'Vandi Chakkaram' in 1979, Smitha assumed the name Silk, after the name of her character.

Her most popular role is 'Layanam' (Malayalam, 1989) directed by Thulasidas. In fact 'Layanam' became so famous that it was remade in Hindi as the controversial 'Reshma Ki Jawani.'
