Microsoft's action has sparked criticism from privacy advisors and some legal action. But the software giant is said to have different policies for collecting data only with consent of the user.
In the help page, Microsoft says, "To access a location service, Microsoft should create a database that records the location of base stations and Wi-Fi access point". We assure you, choice and control access to and use of the device location is always there, he added.
"Before an application can access information related to the user's location, the user must give permission first."
Previously, Apple and Google have a similar criticism about the location of the user.
The two giants were accused of making the user database that can help them secure their share in the market for location-based services, this market is estimated to be worth billions of dollars.
While Google argued track the location of the user to respect the rights of users and maintaining the data well, Apple declined to comment on this.
