New Mineral In Meteorite Yamato 691

NASA scientists and their research partners from South Korea and Japan have identified a new mineral in meteorites Yamato 691, 4.5 billion year old meteorite discovered in Antarctica in 1969. The new mineral is named Wassonite.

His name is taken as a tribute to Johnson T Wasson, a professor at UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles), known as the result of research on meteorites. The new identity of minerals has been approved by the International Mineralogical Association.

NASA scientist Keiko Nakamura said, "Wassonite is the only mineral formed from two elements, sulfur and titanium. However, this mineral has a unique crystal structure that has never been found in nature."

Identification of crystal structure Wassonite possible thanks to the progress of nanotechnology in one department of NASA's Johnson Space Center. Chemical properties and atomic structure viewed with the aid of electron microscope.

Lindsay Keller of NASA's Johnson Space Center said, "Meteorites and minerals contained in it is a window to understand the solar system. By examining it, we can now understand the condition of the solar system and process that will take place."

Yamato 691 meteorite is a meteorite thought to originate from asteroids between Mars and Jupiter. The meteorite was found by members of the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition on Mount Yamato.

Buffalo Fossil Found In Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta - Indonesia

A fossil jaw allegedly part of an ancient buffalo found Sunarto (40) Kajar Village, District Wonosari, Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The fossil was believed to be part of an ancient buffalo jaw ever lived at the time of the Holocene, or 10,000 to 3,000 years ago.

According to Sunarto fossil was found a week ago (03/31/2011) when people in his village were digging the ground for road widening. When the excavations carried out not more than 30 centimeters residents found chunks of red soil that is different from the existing soil around it.

"soil blocks are then I clean the brush, then comes a row of upper and lower teeth with large size, which is estimated to fossil jaw ancient buffalo," said Sunarto, showing the upper and lower teeth, on Wednesday (06/04/2011).

Since they were discovered a week ago, the house artist of this reog visited every day people are curious to see the fossil. Meanwhile, the head of Yogyakarta Archaeological Center, Siswanto, claimed to have received related reports of fossil discoveries in Gunung Kidul it.

"According to research ever undertaken, karst region that stretches from Gunung Kidul to Pacitan, does have a high archaeological potential, particularly herbivorous animals such as rhino, buffalo and bison," said Siswanto when contacted by phone on Wednesday (06/04/2011).

He added that the study of age of a fossil need in-depth research. "If it is true buffalo fossil, estimated to have lived in or around the Holocene era 10000-3000 years ago. However, we will send a team there to investigate the fossil," he added.

The Phenomenon of Donut In The Sky of Belgium

The phenomenon of donut-shaped appearance in the sky of Belgium was arrested by the weather radar recently. Previously, the same phenomenon has also been arrested in Australia in 2010.

What exactly is space that donut? Some people had expected it a UFO. But do not be afraid, because the donut is common natural phenomenon caused by melting snow in the atmosphere.

Marc Dantonio, analysts photos and videos from the Mutual UFO Network, said that the donut is called a melting circle. This occurs in a wide area thus forming a ring-shaped anomaly.

When capturing the image of melting snow, the radar could not capture an area located just above the antenna, called a "cone of silence". As a result, created a similar image of a donut with the middle that seemed hollow.

"The radar can only catch the outside of the region which can be reached, namely that the outside of the donut. Meanwhile, the inside depending on the angle the radar pointing to the sky," Dantonio said that his organization seeks to solve the riddle of UFOs.

Donut phenomenon is only one of many phenomena due to magic formula that can be captured by radar. According to Dantonio, this phenomenon should not be diidetntikkan UFO, but it should be named after IRA (Identifiable Radar Anomalies).

Donut phenomenon can be observed only on the weather radar screen. Donut looks great on screen because the radar has a range of good size. If the radar was in the mountains, donut may appear larger, with larger holes as well.

Donut space imagery is only visible in a moment on the radar screen. This is due to emit radar signals only every seven seconds each hour.

Space Exploration Technology (SpaceX) is Developing Largest Space Rocket

Space Exploration Technology (SpaceX) is developing the largest rocket from humans to the moon landing mission. The rocket is capable of carrying cargo with a capacity of two times larger than NASA's space shuttle and the cost is cheaper.

SpaceX's latest rocket called Falcon Heavy. The rocket is a development from previous rocket called Falcon 9, the rockets that have been done two times and purchased by NASA to launch cargo flights to the International Space Station after the shuttle program completed this year.

Heavy Falcon has advantages because it can carry a payload of 53,071 kg, twice the cargo space shuttle that only 22 680 kg. At a cost of 80 million-125 million dollars per launch, the cost of the use of this rocket 1 / 10 of the shuttle which cost around 1.5 billion U.S. dollars.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said, "The rocket has a higher capability than all vehicles, except the Saturn V. This opens the possibility for government and commercial space missions, which until now not supported by existing capacity."

Heavy Falcon sebenanrnya designed as a cargo plane. However, due to meet the safety requirements of NASA, the rocket could be used to carry humans. Not only to orbit the earth, Falcon Heavy claimed humans can also deliver on a mission to the moon, Mars, and asteroids.

SpaceX Falcon Heavy claimed that the ability can only be rivaled by the Saturn V which had helped bring people to the moon and carry 200,000 pounds of cargo load. The rocket is scheduled to undergo flight tests in 2013 in California and later at Cape Canaveral, Florida.

New Caterpillar Pests - Pests of Mango Plants

Researcher Department of Plant Protection, Bogor Agricultural University, Aunu Rauf PhD, said the caterpillar pests of mango plant in Probolinggo, East Java, is a new type that has never recorded its presence in Indonesia. In the realm of conservation biology, such animal is indicated as an alien species that could affect the existing ecosystems.

"In literature mango crop pests, pests of this type have not been recorded," said Aunu who completed doctoral studies in the field of insects (entomology) at the University of Wisconsin Madison, USA, on Wednesday (06/04/2011).

However, he denied that pest caterpillars that are new species. "It's not a new species yes, just this pest had never encountered before. So this is just the first time to attack," he said.

He had earlier estimated that it is a species of caterpillar Lymantria marginata. Species are recognized from a different wing patterns between males and females as adults. Dark winged males, while female white-spotted wings.

Some experts suspect that the pest had attacked Probolinggoi is Dasychira inclusa. However, he said, "This is another. If Dasychira inclusa morphology is not so. Pest Probolinggo is the color of white wings."

A few days ago, just returned from Probolinggo Aunu for sampling caterpillar. "For now the new is the process of checking in advance to identify the type," he said.

He said the pest attack in Probolinggo is a natural factor. The rapid population of caterpillars that followed the attack on mango plants may occur due to predator species, such as birds or other insects, reduced the population.
